Becoming a Counsellor

I have often been asked what made me become a counsellor. It is not something we, as counsellors, will talk about, as we do not want it to detract from our work. However, it is natural to be curious, and I always invite curiosity in my counselling work. I have had some unpleasant life experiences. I have been through the counselling process and appreciate the value it has made to my life. Overcoming challenges has helped me to understand that my experiences do not define who I am. I have found strength in moving forward and living the best life I can. When I found myself in a good place, I reflected on my life. I wondered what positives I could bring from my experiences. Counselling had a profound effect on me, and it felt natural to want to give something back. I feel that everybody has the right to live a full and enriched life, in which they can make choices based on their own beliefs, values and decisions. Becoming a counsellor felt like the right choice. It allows me to help others achieve their goals and live the best life they can. I am in a privileged position to be able to help others. It is something I never take for granted. I appreciate every client that I meet, and I am honoured to have their trust and help them on their journey to fulfilment and happiness.
